A Neighbours storyline inspired Kyal Marsh to bulk up

There's no doubt that hunky Neighbours star Kyal Marsh has undergone a dramatic physical transformation in the past year. Now one of Ramsay Street's most popular stars, the 18-year-old, who joined the series as Boyd Hoyland at only 14, boasts one of the hottest bodies on TV. But it wasn't always that way, as Kyal agrees with a laugh. "I started on the show as this little kid with really long hair," recalls Kyal. "I've definitely grown up a lot over the years."

The down-to-earth actor says he first started trying to bulk up when his character became an avid gym-goer. "Before then, I'd wanted to start working out, but the storyline just pushed me to actually do it," he admits. "I really enjoy it now." Kyal felt it was important to portray the storyline realistically. "They made out that Boyd was really bulking up," he says. "I didn't want it to look ridiculous. I was going to the gym pretty much every day or every other day."

But while Boyd soon became obsessed, Kyal insists that he's far from becoming a gym junkie. "I've never been at it to the extent of (Boyd)," he says. "But I do think it's really important to be fit and healthy, and happy with your body."

And it seems that Kyal's new look hasn't gone unnoticed by viewers. "People in the street come up to me and say, 'Boyd's really bulked up'. It's kind of embarrassing," he says. "I get lots of letters about it from people saying, 'You've really inspired me'. I hope I'm giving good advice!"

As for what's coming up for his alter ego, Kyal, who is happy in a relationship with girlfriend Jessica, is sure we won't want to miss it. "There may be a new stage in Boyd's life with a new girl," he hints.
