Kyal Marsh spills the beans to TV HITS about his hot new Neighbours storyline...

Hey, Kyal. You've been looking pretty buff on Neighbours lately!

[laughs] Everybody keeps telling me that I've grown up overnight! I've always felt the same but I know when I look back on tapes of myself when I first started, I can see the difference.

So can we! What's going on with Boyd and his fitness obsession? We've been exhausted just watching him this year!

Well, he's gone through the last year stuffing up a lot. He feels like he's really let his dad down. The job at the gym was intended as a way to make everything right and prove that he can be successful at something.

But he takes things too far?

Yes. He's been taking HgH - which stands for human growth hormones. It's a synthetic version of the natural HgH, which is a hormone that causes your body to increase in size.

Does it have any side-effects?

Yep! Boyd doesn't realise it at first, but he's becoming uncharacteristically aggressive, and he is hallucinating a lot. Dr Karl confronts him about it, and eventually Boyd is diagnosed with adolescent schizophrenia. Later though, it's discovered that he has a brain tumour.

Whoa, that's got to be scary! Did you do a lot of research into the disorder?

I did research on the internet and read a lot about people that have gone through brain tumours. Some of it was really depressing stuff, but at the same time it was really interesting.

Are you excited with the direction the writers are going with your character?

After I heard about the heavier stuff coming up I thought 'they can't be serious. I'm not ready for this, I don't think I'll be able to do it!' But it actually turned out to be a lot of fun. I got right into the story and I've learned a lot from it.

It's a great storyline and all, but we hope you're not slowly being written out!

[laughs] You don't have to worry - I plan to be with Neighbours for the next three years at least, so Boyd isn't going anywhere just yet!
