It’s Party Time! – Logies 2006

TV Week, Australia, 20th May 2006

After the formalities were over the stars couldn’t wait to let their hair down and dance the night away

- There was a lot of support for John Wood as the ceremony began and voting in the Race For Gold wrapped up – some of it coming from some unexpected sources. Ryan Moloney from Neighbours admitted to having voted for John already, even though his castmate Natalie Bassingthwaighte was also nominated for the Gold. “I’ve been to every Logies that John has been nominated for Gold,” Ryan laughed.

- While some stars lapped up the attention of fans on the red carpet, Neighbours lads Ryan Moloney and Kyal Marsh were doing their best to avoid them! Kyal confessed they’d walked halfway around the Crown complex trying to find a way to sneak in unnoticed – but they ended up walking half the red carpet anyway.

- Since wrapping up filming on Neighbours, Blair McDonough hasn’t exactly been the busiest of bees – in fact, he admitted to us that he’s doing absolutely nothing! “Well I’m not quite on the dole, but almost,” he joked. “I’ve just been travelling for the past six weeks.”

- She may have looked gorgeous, but Pippa Black was feeling far from herself on the night. The Neighbours star revealed she was still recovering from a nasty bout of the flu. “I was back at the doctor’s last night, so I’m just concentrating on standing up straight,” she admitted. To make matters worse, she had an early start the next day. “I’m first up tomorrow – isn’t that unfair?”

- Neighbours Dan O’Connor was thrilled to see former Idol co-star Ricki-Lee Coulter performing with the Young Divas at the after-party. But there was no need for a big catch up session. “We catch up all the time,” reveals Dan. In fact, the two got together just the previous weekend on the Gold Coast. “We’re good friends,” stresses Dan. Another of Dan’s good friends, castmate Stephanie McIntosh, couldn’t keep her hands off him as they danced and posed for photos together at the Ten after-party.

- Neighbours star Ryan Moloney was celebrating some wonderful, very personal news on Logies night. Ryan, who plays the long-running character of Toadie in the soap, revealed to TV WEEK that he and his gorgeous wife Alison are looking forward to becoming parents. The couple are expecting the birth of their first child in October. “I’m absolutely stoked,” Ryan said. “I’m going to have a little buddy to hang around with.” So, does Ryan know whether they’ll be welcoming a boy or a girl into the world? “No, and we’re not planning on finding out beforehand,” he replied. “You don’t get many surprises like this in life, so you may as well make the most of it.”

- Idol winner Kate DeAraugo tried to hit the sack at a sensible hour – around 1:30am – but she didn’t stay there long. About an hour later, a few of the girls from Neighbours, led by Natalie Bassingthwaighte, repeatedly called Kate, telling her to come back down to the party. Peer-group pressure won, and Kate returned to the Network Ten after party!

- Neighbours’ Natalie Blair had to hide the black stain that materialized on her gorgeous white Gina Kim dress – and deal with a broken heel. Oops!

- All eyes were on Neighbours’ Dichen Lachman in a Razak dress with plunging neckline. “Don’t you worry about me,” she laughed. “I have plenty of sticky tape holding me in!”
