Steph has a big decision to make when Max returns to Erinsborough
Max makes his long-awaited return this week after his son's wilful wife, Janae (Eliza Taylor-Cotter), lays down the law in no uncertain terms. "Janae confronts him, telling him he has to come back and face the music," says Stephen Lovatt, who plays Max. While Boyd (Kyal Marsh) is thrilled to have his dad home for the first time since he disappeared from a psych ward last year, Max's wife, Steph (Carla Bonner), has never felt more conflicted. In the time he's been gone, she's developed feelings for Toadie (Ryan Moloney), who's recovering from injuries sustained in the gun siege. When the young lawyer learns of Max's return, he's certain that Steph - who recently pledged her love to him - will remain by his side. But is that the case? "However misguided he was, Max taking himself out of Steph's world was actually his attempt at a loving act," tells Stephen. "At the time, all the evidence pointed to it being the only logical step."
