I’m a Soap Star Make Me Sweat AXM, UK, July 2007
We thought we’d pull fit boys out of their soaps and into our photo-shoot. We made the sets hot so that they’d be more tempted to take their clothes off. What do you want to do, sue us?
KYAL MARSH, NEIGHBOURS
On Britain’s tellies, 19-year-old Kyal is still causing trouble as Boyd Hoyland in Neighbours. In reality, he’s not in the suburbs of Melbourne but over here and looking for the next stage in his career now he’s left the show. If all else fails he could at least pay for his drinks by posing for gay super-club flyers with lasers pointing around him and everything.
Are you happy of being a soap actor and are you aware of its limitations?
I'm fully aware of the limitations; it doesn't really bother me because I kinda fell into acting in the first place. We got to work with different people on Neighbours and they'd let the actors direct a scene or have input on the storyline if we wanted to, but I never really got into that. I was happier in front of the camera!
You had a VD storyline quite young, how did you cope with that?
(Laughs) I've had a lot of embarrassing storylines... yes, there was the VD one. No matter what the story was about, it always seemed to involve getting half naked or wearing women's underwear.
Did you feel exploited?
(Laughs) Yeah, I was exploited like a piece of meat!
Have you ever had an STD?
No! I wouldn't tell you if I did. That would've been some serious method acting to go out and get an STD!
Is Guy Pearce a patron saint to Aussie soap actors?
(Laughs) He is... he's what every Australian actor wants to be now.
